PAT Tester Proving Unit

Portable Appliance Tester are precision machines, and you should take care to make sure that they are functioning correctly.

This special device will allow you to establish quickly and easily whether or not your machine is working.

Using the device is simplicity itself!

The PAT Testing proving unit is plugged into the PAT tester and the flying lead (clip) is clipped onto the metal stud.

Carry out an Earth Bond test - you should record a reading of approx 0.1ohm

Then carry out an Insulation test - you should see a reading on the PAT Tester of approx 1Mohm.

You may notice a slight discrepancy due to the tolerances in the machine, but if you get readings which are significantly different, then you should have your PAT Tester checked out.

PLEASE NOTE - the proving unit is a handy check that your PAT Tester is doing what it should, but it is NOT a substitute for the all important annual calibration. The calibration check will cover a whole range of readings with highly accurate and sensitive devices. However, a weekly or daily check with a proving unit is important to establish correct operation of your tester.
